Facilities and instruments:

In addition to standard equipment for a variety of tephra analyses (balance, sonicating bath, oven, sieves, lapidary saw, etc.), our lab also contains the following:
 
Jeol JSM-6010PLUS/LA InTouchScope scanning electron microscope (SEM)
​Shimadzu Hyper Vision HPV-1 High-Speed Video Camera
Quantachrome Ultrapyc 1200e helium pycnometer*
Malvern Mastersizer 3000 laser diffraction particle size analyzer (LDPSA)* with Hydrosight (see video to right)  
McCrone micronising mill
QSonica ultrasonic processor
Electro-Tech resistance meter
Conductivity meter
Metler Toledo pH meter
*These instruments are housed in the Center for Sedimentary Basin Studies

Further facilities at UA include the Radiogenic Isotope Lab, Alabama Stable Isotope Lab, and the Alabama Analytical Research Center.
